Spring-Summer 2013

Monthly Goat Hikes: If you’re looking for a fun outdoor activity, come on out to Ten Apple Farm for our monthly goat hikes. You’ll hike through the Ten Apple Farm woods with our herd of Alpine dairy goats. The hike consists of an approximately 2 mile loop through the woods on well maintained trails. There is some steep terrain. Children must be at least 8 years old and accompanied by an adult. Along the way we’ll talk about goats as pack animals and you’ll learn a thing or two about raising and caring for goats. After the hike, try your hand at goat milking, and sample some of our Ten Apple Farm goat cheese. $5 per person. Minimum: 6 people; Maximum: 15 people. Contact us to RSVP. Upcoming dates:

NEW DATES ANNOUNCED!! Basic Home Cheesemaking: Learn how to make easy homestead cheeses in your own kitchen. In this workshop, we’ll make a simple fresh chévre and Ten Apple Farm’s signature MonChaCha, a firm raw milk aged goat cheese. Workshop lasts all day, with a potluck lunch, afternoon tasting of our favorite American artisanal goat cheeses, and evening milking lesson. $40 fee includes cheese tasting and packets of culture to make your own cheese at home. Limit 8 people (Dates: Sunday, July 28 & Saturday, August 24, 9 am-3 pm)

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS:

Poultry Processing: We’ll be processing our Cornish Cross broilers and some spent laying hens. Processing takes most of the day so drop by or stay for the duration. No fee. We welcome all – many hands make small work! Sunday, August 25, 8am-4pm.

January 2013

Winter Goat Hike: Come hike through the Ten Apple Farm woods with our herd of 8 Alpine dairy goats. The goats love to hike and love the snow. The hike consists of an approximately 2 mile loop through the woods on well maintained trails. Kids must be at least 8 years old and accompanied by an adult. After the hike, lunch and goat milk hot cocoa will be served. Email or call ahead to find out if conditions require snow shoes (not provided).  $12 adults, $5 kids (under 16). February 2013

Basic Home Cheesemaking: Learn how to make easy homestead cheeses in your own kitchen. Tree Pruning Workshop: Learn how to prune your apple trees while they are in their winter dormancy to improve ongoing health and productivity. The event will include discussion of techniques, common mistakes and suggested tools. The session is expected to run about 3 hours, including an hour outside pruning, followed by a potluck lunch. Bring pruners or loppers if you have them. $10 per person. (Date: TBA)

March 2013

Bread Baking: Learn how to make a variety of simple yeast breads, including basic whole wheat, no-knead white, and stove-top pita. Morning workshop starts with fresh scones and ends with a potluck lunch. $35 fee includes a pound of locally grown and milled flour to take home. (Date: Saturday March 16, 9 am-1 pm)

April 2013
